Introduction

Gateau yaourt (yogurt cake) is a well known cake in France. Because it is pretty easy, it’s often one of the first cakes you bake as a kid.

As the name calls it, there is a yogurt involved in this cake and most of the recipes are using the yogurt pot to measure all the other ingredients! *Below you’ll also find the conversion into grams / cups.*

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 360 F (180 C).
  2. in a medium saucepan, put some water, sugar and vanilla beans. Bring to a boil. Meanwhile peal and cut pears into halves. Once water boils, add pears and cook for few minutes, returning same once. Set aside on a grid (place a recipient below to catch drops).
  3. In a medium bowl, beat eggs with sugar & vanilla extract. Add yogurt & whisk.
  4. Add all-purpose flour & baking powder.
  5. Whisk everything together & add the melted butter.
  6. Grease a pan & transfer the cake mix into it up to 2/3 of the pan. Add pears halves. Cover with the rest of the cake mix.
  7. Bake for 35 minutes, check with a knife if the cake is baked at center - *the knife should come out clean & dry.*
